Tonight marks the end of an era. Is this a dramatic statement? Yes. Is it true? Absolutely. A generation of kids and young adults (myself included) has grown up with the young wizard named Harry Potter. Harry and his whimsical crew have kept us enthralled for over a decade now. But as of tonight, the series is officially over with the release of the final movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

For some, this release is a reminder that, like Harry’s, our adolescence is over. But regardless of age, this moment brings a chance to rekindle the magic of something that grows increasingly out of reach: the excitement and wonder of childhood. In honor of that magic, and all the magic the HP series has brought us, here are some kid’s rooms that perfectly capture the ‘magic’ of childhood. These rooms would be wonderful places for play and imagination – or to get carried away in a favorite book.

And of course, this post wouldn’t be complete without some actual Harry Potter inspiration!

The success of the Harry Potter series is based in the fantastically detailed world that J.K. Rowling created; these rooms bring that spirit to life and create physical spaces full of whimsy, imagination, and magic.  All these rooms are over the top, but it would be amazing to be a kid in any one of them!

What kind of children’s room would you design? Will you be racing out to see the newest Potter movie this weekend?
